Ethics C3 Presidents Day
“John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Holy Ghost is the spirit of God (God is a spirit: John 4:24) that moves upon the face of the earth to lead and guide all mankind unto God.”
The Founding Fathers and the majority of the US Presidents of the early USA made their Appeals to this Spirit.
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
“To all Christian People to whom this present writing shall come: The President and Council established at Plymouth in the County of Devon, for planting, ruling, and governing of New England in America, send Greeting, in our Lord God everlasting.” The Act of Surrender of the Great Charter of New England to His Majesty : 1635. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/17th_century/mass04.asp
“In recurring to the internal situation of our country since I had last the pleasure to address you, I find ample reason for a renewed expression of that gratitude to the Ruler of the Universe which a continued series of prosperity has so often and so justly called forth.” Eighth Annual Message of George Washington. United States; December 7, 1796.
“It would be unbecoming the representatives of this nation to assemble for the first time in this solemn temple without looking up to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe and imploring His blessing.” Fourth Annual Message of John Adams. United States, November 22, 1800.
“Looking forward with anxiety to their future destinies, I trust that, in their steady character unshaken by difficulties, in their love of liberty, obedience to law, and support of the public authorities, I see a sure guaranty of the permanence of our republic; and retiring from the charge of their affairs, I carry with me the consolation of a firm persuasion that Heaven has in store for our beloved country long ages to come of prosperity and happiness.” Thomas Jefferson : Eighth Annual Message to Congress. Eighth Annual Message. November 8, 1808. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/jeffmes8.asp
“Reaffirming their faith in the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and their desire to live in peace with all peoples and all Governments, and desiring to strengthen the fabric of peace in the West Pacific Area,
Recalling with mutual pride the relationship which brought their two peoples together in a common bond of sympathy and mutual ideals to fight side by side against imperialist aggression during the last war,
Desiring to declare publicly and formally their sense of unity and their common determination to defend themselves against external armed attack, so that no potential aggressor could be under the illusion that either of them stands alone in the West Pacific Area, and
Desiring further to strengthen their present efforts for collective defense for the preservation of peace and security pending the development of a more comprehensive system of regional security in the West Pacific Area…”
Mutual Defense Treaty Between the United States and the Republic of China; December 2, 1954. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/chin001.asp
We will emphasize the subject 'peace.' The Most recently mentioned part of the Peace Treaty between The United States of America and the Republic of China.
Mt 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
This then is the Decleration a Child of Christ can remind people of when one is facing ones accuser(s)
Lu 10:5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
Lu 10:6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
Lu 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
Lu 10:8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
Lu 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Lu 10:10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
Lu 10:11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Lu 10:12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Ro 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
So keep in mind the Christian has a sobering responsibility. And treating the Leaders with respect and working with the 'powers that be' (in this case Presidents) comes as part of that. Without compromising our Ethical Standards.
