Long-suffering means "suffering long." How long? I don't know. It's long, but there is an end to it. Long-suffering requires patience, which means "Capable of enduring hardship or inconvenience without complaining." It is the quality of self-restraint in the face of provocation. The Lord knows us. That's why he can suffer with us so long; that's why he endures. We must do the same.
